25 boys and six coaches set off the Monday previously early in the morning. First stop was Old Trafford and the stadium tour and then it was on to Canterbury and a two-night stay with Stirling’s own Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (5 Scots) at Howe Barracks. The battalion were on standby for deployment to Belize but everything was in a state of chaos because of Hurricane Felix. This hurricane was predicted to make landfall on or near Belize at any time. One company was waiting in Toronto for the all clear to continue their journey but the lucky ones who were waiting in a hotel in Miami were rapidly running out of friends as they continued to bombard their colleagues with reports on the temperature of the swimming pool and the availability of cool beer.
