Message to all Supporters from Scottish Rugby

We wanted to provide a brief update from Scottish Rugby in these challenging times.

Scottish Rugby is continuing to follow NHS and government advice to tackle the impact of Coronavirus (Covid-19). Last week, we took the decision to suspend all rugby in Scotland and at the weekend advised all our staff to work from home. We also announced a new £500,000 Club Hardship Fund which offers financial assistance to grassroots rugby clubs facing cashflow and immediate financial challenges caused by Coronavirus, through a lack of fixtures or pressures on other revenue streams.

The clubs are the bedrock of our game in Scotland and we plan to offer them, and the wider rugby community, as much support as possible.

I would also like to take the opportunity to once again pass on the thanks of the Scotland players, management team and everyone at Scottish Rugby to those supporters who were aiming to attend Saturday’s Guinness Six Nations game against Wales. We were equally disappointed that the match was postponed and understand many supporters were inconvenienced. We will keep you fully posted on updates from the WRU and Six Nations on the rescheduled date. We will also look to make sure our next home matches are extra special for all our supporters.

One recent positive news development was yesterday’s confirmation that the Scotland Women player who contracted Coronavirus has now been released from hospital, and the seven other Scotland players and staff who were self-isolating, have also been cleared to resume daily life.

We want to keep you – our loyal supporters – as fully up-to-date as possible. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide as much clarity as possible, when appropriate, on any future timelines, subject to the ongoing medical advice. All such information will be available through the usual Scottish Rugby channels – website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Scottish Rugby TV as well as our regular newsletter emails.

One thing you should note is that the Macron Scottish Rugby Store at BT Murrayfield is currently closed. However, the online shop is still open and fully stocked and preparing for a sale starting later this week!  You can visit the Scottish Rugby Online Store here.

As well as maintaining and boosting our physical and mental health, sport has the invaluable capacity to lift our spirits, so while rugby is on hold, keep an eye on all these Scottish Rugby channels as we try and keep you entertained as well as informed during these challenging times. For example, did you know that today is the 30th Anniversary of the 1990 Grand Slam? Why not visit Scottish Rugby TV and re-live the best of the action from that historic campaign. Or take a look at the Scotland U20s brilliant 52-17 win over Wales U20, played on Sunday behind closed doors.

If you have questions on the situation in the rugby community, you can "Ask Scottish Rugby" by visiting our new FAQs section on our official website.

The forthcoming period looks certain to challenge not only sport but society as a whole, and we understand that you, and everyone in the rugby community will be facing your own challenges at this time. We wish you all the very best.

Stay clean, stay safe.
