Board update Oct'20

25/10/2020

SCRFC Newsletter

On behalf of the board,  I am writing to all members to say thank you for your continued support of the club. Our membership has held steady compared to last year and it is fantastic that so many members are staying loyal to the club. Our circumstances are very difficult as we have not been able to open the bar or have any functions and therefore our turn over is significantly down. However our membership has remained steady and that is brilliant news. On behalf of the board, I want to say a big thank you to each and everyone of you.

We have been applying for support and grants to many places. I am pleased to let you know that we have been successful with applications to the Gannochy Trust and the National Lottery. These grants allow us to plan forward with a little more confidence. I think we can now see our way through to the end of this financial year but we will still have to be really prudent with our expenditure.

Joey Crozier is doing a fantastic job as our Covid co-ordination. As he said to me it would be silly to try and give you an update in a newsletter. The lines of communication between Joey and the team managers are the way we are getting any updates shared around the club. It is an ever changing landscape and we must adapt as we can.

After internal discussion, we have started a discussion with the SRU about what region or district we should be in. The travel required to service a commitment to Caledonia is a serious drain on money and time. 25 years ago, with the advent of professionalism, we were asked to move from Glasgow to Caledonia to help beef up that region. Now we have started a conversation about moving back. We will keep you informed about how that works out.

I am really pleased to tell you that we have strengthened our Charity board with the addition of a new board member. Robert Sloan, also known as Bobby is now heading up sponsorship, advertising, member engagement and fundraising. Already Bobby has created a hard working and creative fundraising group, increased communications through Facebook, met with a few new potential sponsors and is a real champion of the club.

Lastly, we were expecting a delay in producing our accounts this year as this is our first year of trading as a charity. Covid has exacerbated that but we hope to call an AGM in November by Zoom or on some other electronic platform. Details will follow shortly.

Stay safe and stay informed
